Game Art and Multimedia Design Portfolio Site

Hi all,

Nice to see a new forum for web designers.

I have uploaded my WIP online portfolio, www.jacobleetai.com . Have gone for simplicity and functionality in the design as it's aimed squarely at employees.

I have noticed a problem with it though - if you click on a popup link before the site loads fully, the loading stops altogether (meaning the thumbnails don't show.)

Example code for the popups:

javascript:NewWindow'html/pug1.html','newWin1','width=640,height=480,left=150,top =150,%20toolbar=No,location=No,scrollbars=No,statu s=No,resizable=No,fullscreen=No');%20%20NewWindow.focus();%20void(0);

Is there a way to fix this problem? Cheers, any help would be appreciated.

Thumbs up

Hello Jacobt,
Welcome to Site Help Forums!

I like your works there. But as you said about the purpose of the site, I think it's very straight forward to the point, showing your works to your employers. Nice done

About the pop up thing, I see what you're saying, not sure how to fix it thou...sorry. You might post your question in JavaScripts section, someone there might be able to help you good

cheers

hi there

just a quick review of your site, the design is very nice, very clean and presents the information well, but I feel there is to much empty space, in particular this image
I feel you could fill this space up with some sort of extended banner or something.

The works you display are fantastic, really really nice.

sorry, no javascript help

ciao

Hi,
If you use that image for background, then I think you just create 1 dot with the same color and set background="http://www.sitehelpforums.com/spacer.gif", it will fill up your space and load faster ...

just my 2cents

Very nice looking renders, the rally car is pretty cool.

The load sequence can sometimes be corrupted by the preloadimages function that you have in place (2 in fact); you can get around this bug by using an openWindow function instead of a popupWindow function... I know that they do 99.9% of the same thing, however many browsers do not react the same to popUp window commands. Plus, the preloadimage function will wait to fire in proper order this way (think of it as you are asking the browser to open 2 windows and a function at once and load all the content, when you could ask it to still open 2 windows but both windows would do thier own loading sequences - multitasking -).

I hope this makes some sense, it is late and the ol'brain doesn't always work to great.

btw, are these all your own textures? if so great work, even if they are not, i believe it is the artist that makes the brush paint...the brush would remain still without the inspiration.

great job!

Thanks for the help.

I've replaced the large gifs with a spacer image, and reduced the amount of negative space at the top as well.

Tigbitties, thanks for the explaination, it was understandable . I have changed the funtion to openWindow from popupWindow, although the problem still occurs. bah!

Yes, all of the texturing is my own. The only other images used in them were a scan of vines growing up a wall, and also some of the logos on the peugeot were taken from the web.

Cheers guys.
